What is temporary business car insurance?
If you plan to drive your car for business and your annual car insurance policy only covers you for commuting to a single place of work, you'll need to update your cover. However, adding business use to your annual policy could raise your premium, and incur an admin charge from your insurer to change your policy.
This is where temporary business car insurance comes in. You can take out a policy alongside your existing cover so you only pay when you need to.
Business use for car insurance includes:

Not necessarily. If you usually only commute to one place of work, an office for example, then your insurance policy likely only covers you for your commute and won’t automatically cover you if you need to drive somewhere else for business.
Yes, you can. If you and a colleague are taking their car, you can take out a temporary car insurance policy to ensure you’re covered to drive their car for the duration of the trip. Get a temporary business car insurance quote.
Adding yourself to someone else's annual policy would likely increase the premium they pay and could attract a fee for changing their policy. If you were to claim on the policy, it could also impact their No Claims Discount.
A simpler solution could be to take out an RAC Temporary Car Insurance policy. Our short-term policies cover business use and allow you to insure yourself on someone else's car within 15 minutes. Business use is if you’re using your car to travel to different places of work, for example if you're a sales agent or a doctor.
Commercial use is for when your car forms a key part of your job, such as a courier or taxi driver - our policies don’t cover the transport of goods or people for hire or reward. RAC offer insurance for commercial use.
Our policies can be extended to offer comprehensive cover for trips to Europe.
